A scholarship is a merit-based offer awarded to newly admitted undergraduate students that does not need to be repaid. A student’s academic achievement determines his/her eligibility for the scholarship and the amount to be awarded regardless of his/her financial need. Most awards for undergraduates are made only during the fall session. Undergraduate scholarship beneficiaries are eligible for Al Akhawayn scholarships for a maximum of nine enrolling semesters (or eight semesters plus two summer sessions) including one semester at the Language Center.

Scholarship Types Offered

  • 100 percent of tuition, fees, and books (almost 38,025 MAD per semester)
  • 100 percent of tuition and fees (almost 35,025 MAD per semester)
  • 100 percent of tuition (almost 29,925 MAD per semester)
  • 75 percent of tuition (almost 22,443 MAD per semester)
  • 50 percent of tuition (almost 14,962 MAD per semester)

AUI scholarships are predicated on the following conditions:

Scholarship Conditions

  • Scholarships are granted for specific programs and are not transferable to other programs outside the school to which the scholarship recipient was initially accepted. However, new admitted candidates enrolled with a scholarship in their first semester at AUI are allowed to change their chosen program before the first day of classes. Otherwise, they lose their scholarship.
  • As part of their scholarship package, full scholarship holders are required to perform unpaid part-time jobs (five hours per week for 80 hours per semester) on the Al Akhawayn campus.
  • Scholarship holders can apply for the Exchange Program for one semester only (or for one year when required by the school program), taking a minimum of 15 transferable credits. However, if the student takes fewer than the recommended full-time load, they should be aware of the risk of needing more than nine semesters, in which case they will have to pay for additional courses beyond the ninth semester.
  • Students are allowed to use their scholarships during summer sessions as long as they are in good academic standing and do not exceed the total budget committed for the scholarship period.

Applying for Scholarships

Undergraduate scholarships are offered to Moroccan students only.

Students can apply for a scholarship by completing the scholarship section stated in the Online Application for Admission, downloading the Undergraduate Scholarship Form and sending it to the Financial Aid Office before the established deadline. Highly qualified applicants, admitted in the General Admission Test (GAT) and meeting the scholarship selection criteria stated below, are invited for a scholarship interview prior to a final decision. After a rigorous selection by the Al Akhawayn scholarship committee, successful candidates are offered merit-based scholarships.

The committee’s scholarship decision is communicated via a candidate’s personal accounts and/or e-mail.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduates (Bachelor’s Candidates)

  • A Moroccan baccalaureate or equivalent with a minimum « mention Bien » (14/20) or a grade of 13/20 or above for a French baccalaureate or an American baccalaureate with a SGPA of at least 3.00/4.00 or a Middle Eastern Baccalaureate with 90% or better or a Spanish Baccalaureate of 8/10 or better.
  • A superior achievement in the General Admission Test (GAT) or an SAT score of 1700 or better with 500 points in mathematics (if obtained before March 2016) or an SAT score of 1100 or better with 500 points in mathematics (if obtained after March 2016).
  • A superior rating at the scholarship Interview.
  • A combination of these elements is used to rank undergraduate scholarship applicants and determine the type of scholarship they will be awarded. Students offered a scholarship should confirm their acceptance of the award and of its renewal policy by paying a non-refundable advance of 10,000 MAD within the set deadline.

N.B: High School Diploma must be recently obtained. Only the first year and first time applicants who are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Scholarship Renewal Policy for Undergraduates (Bachelor’s Candidates)

Undergraduate scholarship beneficiaries are eligible for Al Akhawayn scholarships for a maximum of nine enrolling semesters (or eight semesters plus two summer sessions), including one semester at the Language Center. The continuation of the scholarship depends on the student demonstrating excellence and successful progress toward the student’s studies, as evidenced by maintaining a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) of at least 3.00. If the SGPA falls between 2.50 and 2.99, the student will be placed on scholarship probation. If the student fails to return to the required standing, reduction or suspension of the scholarship will apply. If the student obtains « W » or « WP » or « WF » in all courses at the end of any semester, s/he will be automatically placed on scholarship suspension for the following semester as described in the table below:

SGPA ≥ 3.0 Good standing. Maintains scholarship for the following semester.
First semester: SGPA between 2.5 and 2.99 First probation with conditional scholarship for the following semester.
Second semester (after the first probation): SGPA below 3.00 Second probation (either consecutive or cumulative). Fifty percent scholarship reduction for the following semester.
Third semester: SGPA below 3.00 Third probation either consecutive or cumulative.  Scholarship suspension for the following semester.
First semester: SGPA below 2.50 First unsatisfactory standing. Fifty percent scholarship reduction for the following semester.
Second semester (after the first unsatisfactory standing): SGPA below 3.00 Second unsatisfactory standing (either consecutive or cumulative). Scholarship suspension for the following semester.
At the end of any semester: SGPA with « W », « WP » or « WF » in all courses. Scholarship Suspension for the following semester.

Undergraduate scholarship students with an SGPA between 2.90 and 2.99 may write an appeal for the scholarship committee. If the appeal is rejected, the probationary status will apply. If the appeal is accepted, the student is required to return to normal standing (SGPA of 3.0 or above) for the following semester. Otherwise, they will be placed on scholarship probation without the possibility to write an appeal.

Appealing to be removed from scholarship probation is applied only to scholarship holders who are placed on first-time scholarship probation. The appeal can be made only once during their undergraduate studies. To consider the appeal, their school’s recommendation, parents’ financial situation, and student’s involvement in social work or other university activities will be taken into consideration.

Decisions regarding reduction or suspension based on the spring academic results are applied to the following summer and fall; however, summer session results are not taken into account either for probation, suspension, or reinstatement.

Continuing students on scholarship withdrawing from AUI will definitely lose their scholarship package if ever they decide to return to AUI.

A separate scholarship system is also applicable to undergraduate students enrolled in Language Center courses with or without regular courses in their first or second semester at Al Akhawayn. Undergraduate scholarship students are allowed to benefit from their Al Akhawayn scholarship package for one semester only while at the Language Center. They must pay for every Language Center course they are left with for the following semester(s). The cost of one Language Center course corresponds to that of a 3-credit course: 5,985 MAD.

The scholarship renewal policy adopted by Al Akhawayn is also applicable to students on exchange at the end of their exchange program semester. Passing grades are determined in the Transfer Grades Chart available at the Office of the Registrar and communicated by the Office of International Programs to students when applying to partner universities.

Excellence Awards for Continuing Deserving Students

In order to encourage sustainable excellence, the University offers some scholarships as Excellence Awards to its continuing students in recognition of their academic excellence. These scholarships are offered to undergraduate continuing deserving students with excellent academic profiles based on their high CGPA, the number of credits earned and the availability of funds. They are granted in form of full and partial tuition waivers. However, they do not cover any course the beneficiary may drop during the semester of the offer.

In order to be eligible to apply for such award, applicants should meet the following criteria:
– Must be an undergraduate degree-seeking student;
– Must have completed at least 30 credits at Al Akhawayn University;
– Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or better;
– Must have never been placed on academic or disciplinary probation;
– Must be a non full tuition scholarship holder.
– Must have earned at least 15 credits or completed 5 courses at AUI during the last semester prior to the time of their application.
