Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals for one full time PhD studentship within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. The studentship is for a period of 3 years (36 months) effective 1st March 2018 or earlier, by negotiation. The successful applicant will receive an annual stipend of £16,553 plus payment of their full time Home/EU OR international tuition fees, whichever is applicable. This research programme is being funded by a large international corporation and the successful candidate will have an employment opportunity in the Global Technology Organization at the Corporation after graduation.
Brunel University London has an internationally established reputation for high quality research into advanced insulation and efficient energy use in the built environment. The successful applicant will join a project team that is contributing to research focused on developing innovative vacuum insulation for cold chain equipment. As part of the project, you will be expected to travel overseas, (including to the USA, Japan and China) to present progress to stakeholders.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants will have or expect to receive a first degree at 2:1 or above in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or similar numerate discipline. A postgraduate Masters degree is an advantage but not essential. Overseas applicants must demonstrate they have English language skills to IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in all sections) or equivalent.
