The Italian Institute for Historical Studies has established up to 15 PhD scholarships programme for young graduates and PhD students for the 2018-2019 academic year. These scholarships are available for both Italian and foreign students. The Italian Institute for Historical Studies, which was founded in 1946 by Benedetto Croce next to its historic library in Palazzo Filomarino, was established as an Ente morale (state decree No. 46, on 9/1/1947), and proposes, as its statute decrees, to foster in young people “a greater awareness of history in relation to the study of the philosophy of logic, ethics, law, economy and politics, religion and those arts which define and demonstrate human values; ends and values to which the historian is called upon to understand in order to narrate the events of history.” Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
