This scholarship supports students for study towards a PhD degree in the Faculty of Science at the University of Canterbury. The scholarship is tenable for study towards a PhD degree in the Faculty of Science at the University of Canterbury and will be offered to the first-ranked candidate on the Faculty of Science list of candidates for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship, except that if the first ranked candidate is offered the Brownlie Scholarship the Roper Scholarship will be offered to the second ranked candidate on the Science list. An application for a University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship, with placement on the Faculty of Science list, constitutes an application for the Roper Scholarship in Science; a separate application is not necessary.
