Chulalongkorn University – Thailand

In 1871, during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) of Thailand, a pivotal step was taken to reform the Siamese educational system. This initiative aimed to cultivate skilled personnel capable of contributing to both the public and private sectors. To support this objective, a school was established within the Royal Pages Barracks at the Grand Palace compound, later named « Suankularb » by King Chulalongkorn in 1882. This period also saw the founding of other educational institutions under the king’s patronage, including the Army Cadet School, the Cartographic School, the School for Princes, and the School for Dhamma Studies.
