As an executive agency under the Ministry of Education, NIIED plays a leading role in strengthening national competitiveness by developing international human resources among overseas Koreans, exchanging students under national government scholarship programs, and providing educational administrative services.

Institute that administers Korean government’s scholarship programs

NIIED hosts outstanding overseas students through the Global Korea Scholarship program, to support them
to achieve their goals and to improve their living conditions.

Institute that leads and supports the education for overseas Koreans

NIIED provides Korean textbooks and materials for overseas Koreans to study their mother language through KOSNET
in order to strengthen their national identity and to enhance their learning aptitude to study in universities located in Korea

Institute that reinforces the usage of the Korean language through administrating Test
of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)

NIIED expands the usage of the Korean language by administering the Korean language ability test in Korea and
abroad for non-Korean residents.

Institute that carries out the exchange of international education

NIIED supports international exchange programs such as the Korean-Japanese students exchange program,
Korean-Japanese high school student language exchange program and Korean-Chinese students exchange program

Institute that supports overseas students and managing overseas human resources

NIIED administers ‘Study in Korea’, one of the Korean government’s top priority projects and manages the body of
scholarship recipients through the database system HURIK

Institute that administers the EPIK (English Program in Korea) and TaLK (Teach and Learn
in Korea) programs

NIIED supports foreign language education in public schools by hosting English native speaking teachers
through the EPIK and TaLK programs.

Institute that increases customer satisfaction through continuous evaluation, improvement
and innovation

NIIED is credited as the ‘2012 Top Institute for Developing Human Resources in the Public Sector’ for customers’ satisfaction
